I can't believe it! Fifty years in space. Exactly one-half of a century. Sputnik I, was launched fifty years ago today.

Hard to believe what a simple little steel sphere hardly three feet in diameter can do to the world. This little ball started it all--it took America by storm, resulting in the creation of NASA itself and the Explorer series of American Satellites. The starting gun of the Space Race had sounded...and everyone could hear it's footsteps:

Although I have not yet got Orbiter to work on my computer, I did find a pretty good video of what is possible with it:

And there is much, much, much more. I've even seen a plugin for an X-wing and the U.S.S. Enterprise, not to mention practically every other spacecraft ever flown, both in real space or just in the dreams of the designers.
